Spyderco Persian Folder2, Small Persian Folder2, and Gayle Bradley Knives

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Spyderco has updated the Ed Schempp designed Persian and small or 75mm Persian and designated them the Persian Folder2 and Small Persian Folder2.

I like these updated versions.  They both feature VG-10 steel and G-10 handles and are of  lock back design.

Overall length of the Persian is 8.25″ with a 3.44″ blade, while the length of the small Persian is 6.88″ with a 2.94″ blade.

Spyderco SuperLeaf Knife and Lum Large Chinese Folder

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

The new SuperLeaf design by Spyderco is in response to requests for a larger leaf-shaped folder.

The VG-10 blade features a flat-grind and is 3.44 inches long.  The handle features black G-10 handle scales over skeletonized liners.  It features a compression lock to lock the blade open.  The pocket clip is adjustable for left or right side  tip-up carry.

The Large Chinese Folder is a design of the late Bob Lum and features a flat-ground 3.75 inch VG-10 blade with a swedge along the blade’s spine.  Like the SuperLeaf it also features black G-10 handle scales but the locking mechanism used is a locking liner.  The black pocket clip is fully-adjustable for both left and right tip-up or tip-down pocket carry.

Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT) Vertex CP Knife — Outburst Assist, Fire Safe Safety

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

The Vertex CP (clip point) is brand new from Columbia River and features their Outburst assisted opening system that helps to quickly deploy the blade.

It also features the Fire Safe safety mechanism that locks the blade in the closed position.  This safety is released by pushing down the plunger built into the thumb stud.

The hollow ground clip point blade is 3.125 inches and is made from 8Cr14MoV stainless steel.

The handle is black hard anodized 6061 aluminum with cocobolo inserts and 2Cr13 steel liners.

Columbia River Knife and Tool Drifter Knife

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

One of my favorite knives is the Drifter by CRKT.  It is of liner lock design and features G-10 scales over stainless steel liners.  The 8Cr14MoV steel blade is 2.88 inches and has been given a nice gray titanium nitride finish which is a look I very much like.  Another nice aspect of this knife is that it has an open build that makes it easy to clean.  I should also point out that the pocket clip isn’t adjustable and is positioned for tip-down carry.

This G-10 version is available in both plain and partially-serrated versions:

Their is also a stainless steel version that features a stainless steel handle and is a frame lock rather than a liner lock.  The handle has been given a flat titanium nitride finish but the blade only features a standard brushed finish.  Once again the blade is 2.88 inches and is 8Cr14MoV stainless.

This version only comes with a plain edge:
